Most religions discuss remaining “present.” This idea roughly means don’t focus on your life being better tomorrow (e.g., “when I retire things will be easy” or “next week I’ll get that report completed”) and don’t focus on the past, (e.g., “things were so much easier and better in college” or “my last job was much less stressful than this one”). At some level, our digital posts help us remain “present” as they allow us to take a look at the digital footprint we are creating in the moment. Is your footprint on the rocky hills of Kilimanjaro or is it firmly planted on the couch watching reruns of an insignificant reality show?
